Nine members of the congregation travelled to Alton on a windy and wet Friday to start a weekend of rest, relaxation and silence. This is the second year running we have attended the Abbey for our Parish Retreat, and as well as some of the usual suspects who have attended Parish Retreats over the past 5 years, we had several first timers.
The Abbey is home to a community of 6 Anglican Benedictine brothers, and is set in beautiful countryside outside Alton. The weekend is based around the daily life of the community, starting with Morning Prayer at 6.30am, and finishing with Night Prayer (Compline) at 8.30 pm, although those attending the weekend are free to attend all, some or none of the services.
Roll on October when we’re back again with a whole new group (and a few old timers returning again)
