Parish Retreat part 2 – 23rd – 25th October

Our second retreat of the year was once again a huge success. For the first time we had a full house, taking the maximum of 12 people with us. The group was made up of some who were visiting Alton for the first time, some who were actually attending a retreat for the first time, and some who were old hands at Alton.

Once again our retreat leader was the Rev’d Tony Fiddin-Green. His addresses were about the lives of St Benedict, St Dominic and Archbishop Oscar Romero. As well as learning about their lives, we were also able to learn about how their example could affect our own lives and understanding of others. As Alton Abbey is an Anglican Benedictine Abbey, many of us came away with a greater understanding of the community, and the life they lead after the talk about St Benedict, and reading some of The Rule that they live by.

The Sunday Mass was the highlight of the weekend, when our own Peter Kane came to the rescue by becoming the Abbey’s organist for the morning! His playing ensured we had hymns and music to accompany us as we celebrated Mass, with communion in both kinds!

The October Retreatants

Watch this space for details of next years retreat dates, when the retreats will be lead by Dom Nicholas Seymour, Guestmaster at Alton Abbey.
