Boys’ Brigade

Join the BB!

We are very proud to announce that on Tuesday 20 February at 3.30pm, the first meeting of the 1st Chichester Boys Brigade and Girls Association (to be known as ‘The 1st Chichester BB’) will be held in the Parish Centre here at St Paul’s.
We will meet every Tuesday from 3.30-4.45pm during term-time and will be open to girls and boys between 5 and 11 years old. Each week will see a mix of activities including games, skills, crafts, music, cooking and challenges that will give the kids a chance to earn their badges in our 5 key areas of Body, Community, Creativity, Mind and Spirit. We hope to help our children to reach their full potential by providing opportunities to meet together and engage in a range of fun and developmental activities and experiences.
The group will be led jointly by our youth leader, Liz Yonge and Father Simon in his role as Chaplain. We are ably and enthusiastically supported by a volunteer team including Susanna, Katrina and Tracey!
Fees will be payable termly and will be £30 per child per term. There will also be uniform to buy and we will aim to make this as inexpensive as possible so expect to pay around £10 for the basic polo short and additional amounts should you wish to purchase a sweatshirt too.
We do have a bursary fund so please don’t let money be a reason not to come! Contact us for a confidential discussion and we will always seek to find a way forward.

BB History

The Boys Brigade was the very first uniformed youth organisation in the United Kingdom, and gave inspiration to Baden Powell for the creation of the Scout Movement. It was founded in Glasgow and differs from Scouting and Guiding in that it exists to promote and encourage Christian faith among young people. It is this quality which makes it particularly appropriate for St Paul’s, and we are keen that it should become a central component in our youth and children’s work, along with Sunday School, Rox and Sox, and Messy Church.

What’s next?

Should you wish to enquire about a place for your child in the BB, please email Liz Yonge at youth@stpaulschichester.org , stating your name and contact number, together with the child’s name and date of birth. We will then call you back to understand more about you and your child and will give you more information on the group before agreeing a suitable start date. Liz is also contactable via the church office on 01243 533403 on Wednesdays and Thursdays should you wish to have an informal discussion.
We hope to see you at the BB soon!
