Lunchtime
Eighth Station: Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem
We adore you, O Christ and we bless you
because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.
Bible Reading – Luke 23. 27-28
A large crowd of people followed Jesus; among them were some women who were weeping and wailing for him. Jesus turned to them and said, ‘Women of Jerusalem, don’t cry for me, but for yourselves and your children.’
Meditation
Now is a time for weeping and lamentation:
a time to weep for the mothers and children of Jerusalem,
a time to weep over the world’s wounds and divisions,
a time to weep for those who are gravely ill.
In our grief and concern we cry out to God
lamenting the suffering of our present time.
Prayer
For all who will wake or watch or weep this night;
for those who cry out to Jesus in their distress:
Lord, in your mercy
hear our prayer.
