As part of its mission, St Paul’s has a long history of giving generously to Anglican Mission Charities and other charitable organisations working locally, nationally and internationally. We believe it is our Christian duty to help those in need where we can. We do this in a number of ways, including working in partnership with local charities who use our Parish Centre and Church building, and by raising money through a number of social events held throughout the year. We have supported individual projects with the Anglican Mission Agency, the Church Mission Society, or CMS, for a number of years. We are currently supporting ministry of Bishop Martin Gordon, Bishop of Goma, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. We regularly pray for the work of Christian Aid worldwide, and we raise funds each year during Christian Aid week in aid of the charity. We also raise funds for specific appeals, often in response to a disaster. Christian Aid’s core values of dignity, equality, justice and love align with ours as a church. The United Society Partners in the Gospel are a charity that have been involved in the global mission of the Anglican Communion since their inception in 1701. Working in partnership with the local church they seek justice and to unlock the potential in the communities in which they work. St Paul’s currently supports a project in North India which seeks to prevent human trafficking. This project is described on their website HERE
The British Earthquake and Tsunami Support Charity is a small local charity based in Bosham, close to Chichester. Set up in response to the 2004 Boxing day Tsunami it continues to support people, largely in Indonesia, where earthquakes and tsunami are frequent. This organisation is run entirely by volunteers and St Paul’s finds supporting a smaller organisation an important partner to work with. Their website can be found HERE
As well as raising funds for our mission partners, we also support local charities in the following ways. We provide our kitchen, rent free, to local charity Four Streets to provide an evening meal to those who are homeless or vulnerably housed (more information on Four Streets can be found HERE).
We also support the Chichester Foodbank who provide food and practical support to people in some of their hardest moments. Members of the congregation are invited to bring tinned and non -perishable food to St Paul’s on the 1st Sunday of the month at the 10am service.
